"To serve the poor and hurting in Christ's name"

Community Services provides an opportunity to reach out to the world as ambassadors for Christ and meet physical, mental, and emotional needs. We are told that “many have not faith in God and have lost confidence in man. But they appreciate acts of sympathy and helpfulness. As they see one with no inducement of earthly praise or compensation coming to their homes, ministering to the sick, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, comforting the sad, and tenderly pointing all to Him . . . their hearts are touched. . . . They see that God cares for them, and as His Word is opened they are prepared to listen.” –Medical Ministry, p 247
As Christians, we need to follow Christ’s example in meeting the needs of others. Adventist Community Services tries to meet those needs - - physically, emotionally and socially. We do this through programs such as Adventist Community Service Centers, Dorcas Societies, food pantries, health fairs and screenings, disaster response, clothing distribution and tutoring and mentoring. This approach will bring every church in our Conference unsurpassed success in every dimension of Christian Service and Christian life. The spirituality of each church will be elevated, the membership will be increased, all other ministries will become more meaningful. Equally important, each church will merge into significant and relevant entities in the communities. This kind of success Ellen G. White perceived when she stated: “Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Savior mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me’.” (MH 143) Consequently, it is absolutely appropriate and justified that when Jesus returns, according to Matthew 25:31-46, our eternal destiny will be consistent with our involvement or non-involvement in community ministries, since this is what Jesus practices, commands and enables.
